TRANSFORMING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION IN NIGERIA THROUGH GOVERNMENT-LED INITIATIVES, TECHNOLOGY INCLUSION AND PARTNERSHIP: VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Abstract
This paper examines a transformative framework for Early Childhood Education (ECE) in Nigeria, anchored on government-led initiatives, technology inclusion, and strategic partnerships. It argues that sustainable improvement in ECE requires strong political commitment, coherent policy implementation, and increased public investment across federal, state, and local levels. The study highlights the role of digital technologies in expanding access, enhancing pedagogy, and supporting teacher professional development, particularly in underserved and rural communities. Emphasis is placed on inclusive practices that ensure equitable learning opportunities for all children, including those with disabilities and from marginalized backgrounds. Furthermore, the paper underscores the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration involving government agencies, private sector actors, civil society organizations, international development partners, and local communities. Such partnerships are presented as critical drivers of innovation, resource mobilization, and effective service delivery. Drawing on contemporary evidence, the study situates ECE as a foundational investment in human capital development with long-term implications for national productivity, social cohesion, and economic resilience. The analysis concludes that transforming Nigeria’s ECE landscape is both an urgent necessity and a strategic opportunity, given the country’s rapidly growing young population. It calls for decisive, coordinated, and sustained action to move beyond fragmented interventions toward a holistic, systems-based approach. Ultimately, the paper envisions a future where high-quality, inclusive, and technology-enabled early childhood education becomes universally accessible, positioning Nigeria to harness the full potential of its youngest citizens.
